Paralympic athlete visit

On Friday 28th April we were very privileged to welcome Paralympic athlete Mel Clarke to Great Wyrley Academy. Mel won a silver medal at London 2012, and was a world champion in archery.

Mel worked with the Year 10 Sports Studies group on tasks requiring effective leadership, teamwork and communication. Years 7, 8, and 9 were given a presentation by Mel on how she has overcome challenges in her life and still managed to achieve her dreams.

Mel’s philosophy is ‘Dream, Believe, Work, Achieve'. Mel was extremely generous is allowing some of our students the amazing experience of not only holding the Olympic torch that she used in the London 2012 torch relay, but was given the opportunity to hold and wear her Paralympic silver medal.
