Great Wyrley Academy and Windsor Academy Trust Community Foundation are proud to officially open the doors to our new Community Fridge at TheHub@Wyrley.
We’re bringing people together around sharing surplus food, helping to soften the impact of high living costs, reducing shopping bills and giving our friends in the community some much-needed financial wriggle room.
Our doors are opening in April, starting with our Community Fridge, our surplus food sharing club - where everyone in our community is welcome to donate to this good cause and save money on shopping, too.
TheHub@Wyrley is a place for local people to meet and chat, lighten the load together, and share ideas that can start making change happen. We have transformed our former caretaker’s building into a shared space for local people to support each other, reduce food waste, and help our community thrive.

🚀 Reduces Food Waste: We rescue high-quality food that supermarkets cannot sell and share it with our community
🚀 Saves Money: The Community Fridge is full of nutritious, low cost food that helps shopping budgets go further.
🚀 It Connects Us: Our friendly volunteers have created a warm space where we can meet new people, listen to local needs, so that local residents can make change happen.
To become a member you donate £2 annually, and contribute £5 each time you shop, and in return you can access food worth far, far more!
You’ll find a wide selection, including fresh, frozen and long-life options, fruit and veg, family favourites and non-food essentials.
All donations will contribute to securing further surplus food to share with our community.
This project is run by volunteers from our school, local families and friends within our neighbourhood. It uses our own limited funds raised by charitable events organised by the Windsor Academy Trust Community Foundation, as well support from external funding partners. Our dedicated volunteers give freely of their time for the benefit of the community. This means our Community Fridge can only operate to a certain capacity. We would welcome any donations, contributions to stock, as well as volunteers to help run The Fridge.
The seed for this project was planted by our Science Teacher, Claire Holmes, and Zara Sands from Helping Hearts Food Bank. Inspired by their shared passion for sustainability and the greater public good, our Community Fridge is a powerful example of local people listening to local needs and taking action.
Discover how you can make a difference in our community. Whether you want to sign up as a member, make a donation or volunteer to help run the Community Fridge, we welcome your support.
