Remote Learning/Homework

Remote Learning

At Great Wyrley, we believe face-to-face education is the priority for all pupils. Remote learning is considered a last resort, short-term measure when attendance is genuinely impossible.

Remote learning, which also encompasses our regular school homework provision, is an integral part of our curriculum. It is designed to be high quality and ambitious, enhancing learning, improving achievement, and developing students' essential study skills. It is independent study that is not directly supervised by a teacher and allows students to become self-regulated, independent learners.

Remote Education in Cases of Absence

Remote education is provided when a pupil is unable to attend school but is otherwise well enough to learn. This includes short-term infectious illnesses, recovery from an injury/operation, or periods of school closure (e.g., severe weather).

1. Accessing the Remote Curriculum

To ensure continuity and a curriculum equivalent in length to in-school teaching (a minimum of 5 hours per day is expected for KS3 and KS4), pupils will follow these steps:

  • Google Classroom: All students at Great Wyrley must log into their Google account to access their Google Classroom. This is the primary platform where all assignments, resources, and instructions will be shared by subject teachers.
  • Engagement and Feedback: Students can get in touch with their teacher via Google Classroom to ask questions, submit work, and receive regular feedback on their assignments.

2. Ensuring Equal Access and Provision

We are committed to ensuring all pupils can access their learning, regardless of their home circumstances:

  • Digital Access: We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. In the event of a sustained need for remote education, the school will take steps to support pupils by providing printed resources (e.g. work packs, textbooks) and communicating alternative submission methods.
  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities: We will work collaboratively with families to make reasonable adjustments and ensure that pupils with SEND can access the remote curriculum successfully, informed by their individual needs.

3. Independent Study and Revision Resources

Alongside the work uploaded onto Google Classroom, students are encouraged to use the following high-quality resources for independent study and revision:
